Chalets
Comfortable private chalets designed for relaxation after a day of exploration.
Stay in traditional Rungus huts, wander an 11-acre wildlife reserve, and connect with village culture—where the South China Sea meets the Sulu Sea.
Tampat Do Aman, meaning “a place of peace” or “a place of friends”, opened its doors in March 2011 with the ambition of offering travellers an authentic experience in the heart of the Rungus tribe’s stronghold, near the Tip of Borneo.
Tampat Do Aman is owned and operated by Englishman Howard Stanton and his Rungus wife, Lorinna, together with staff from the surrounding villages. This was a conscious decision to employ only local people, ensuring that the community benefits directly as the business grows.
Tampat Do Aman is deeply committed to preserving both the natural environment and Rungus culture. With this in mind, the majority of the property has been dedicated to an 11-acre wildlife reserve, where guests are free to explore at their own pace and discover a wide variety of birdlife and wildlife.
The retreat is also home to a Rungus museum, created to preserve local heritage and allow guests to learn about the rich cultural traditions of the Rungus community. In addition, with prior notice, Tampat Do Aman offers Rungus cuisine cooking lessons, which include guided tours of the lush gardens showcasing traditional medicinal and edible plants.
Accommodation options include chalets, Sulaps (traditional Rungus huts), and longhouses, providing something to suit every discerning traveller.
Tampat Do Aman specialises in group accommodation and activities for schools and companies, while also offering an ideal environment for individual travellers seeking exploration, learning, and connection with nature.
