How to get to Tampat do Aman
We are glad to know that you are coming to experience the life in Sabah, Borneo. The area is fantastically beautiful, very undiscovered and a great place to get out and explore.
We have a very strong philosophy of supporting the local villagers and hence we currently employ 21 of them but this is set to increase with the advent of a few more projects we are working on. Basically by staying with us you will be doing your bit for the local economy and also the environment.
To make your way until Tampat do Aman the easiest as possible, we share some useful information on the transport from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat and from there our pick-up service to Tampat do Aman.
Our pick-up service
We have a pick up service that runs from Kudat (30 km away) to Tampat do Aman. The pick up time is between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. from the Ria hotel in the centre of Kudat, where there’s a cafe and free WiFi.
The cost for that service is RM 15 per person each way.
Late pick up
After 2 p.m. the transfer rate rises to RM 50 per person. Please note that quite often we are busy in the afternoon and will find it difficult to come and pick you up, but if we can we will, if not, you can give us a call and we can help point you in the direction of a little car/taxi to bring you out to our restaurant (Tip Top Restaurant), this will cost around RM 50 (for the car) though.
From Kota Kinabalu to Kudat
The Kudat town, is located about 190 kilometers northeast of Kota Kinabalu (KK). The name of the area comes from the local word for a kind of scrub grass (“kudad”), which was the answer given when British sailors asked the locals for the name of the place. Check out the best way for you to get here:
Where: The best way to reach Kudat from KK (Kota Kinabalu) is to jump into a shared taxi from a place called Bandaran Berjaya in Kota Kinabalu, which is about 7 km away from the airport.
Time: The best time to get the shared taxi to Kudat is in the morning between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Give us a call/ SMS when you are leaving Kota Kinabalu (+60138808395) so that we can gauge when you will be arriving in Kudat. If you don’t have a phone, please ask the driver to send an SMS, they are usually very accommodating and will help OR when you get to Kudat ask the receptionist at the Ria hotel to give us a missed call and we will call back to speak to you.
Our usual meeting place is the Ria hotel, they have a cafe underneath with free WiFi . Generally we look to pick people up between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Cost: The shared taxi has a cost of RM 30 per person.
Important: These shared taxis leave when there is seven people in the taxi, if you wish to have the whole taxi for yourself, that’s not a problem, but the price will be RM 210.
Where: There is currently a bus service that leaves KK for Kudat daily at 8:30 a.m. from the bus depot across from Dreamtel, which is close to Bandaran Berjaya. The bus takes around 4 hours to reach its destination.
Cost: The bus costs about RM 25 per person and will get to Kudat around 12 p.m., you can then make your way to the Ria hotel for a coffee and wait for the shuttle out to our place.
Added to the above, you can actually fly to Kudat. You can fly on MAS Wings and the flight leaves KK either Monday or Thursday, please check the times on the company’s website. The flight takes about forty minutes and is a great flight up the coast. On the above days you can either fly to Kota Kinabalu or Sandakan (where the Orang Utan sanctuary is and the Kinabatangan river, a great for wildlife watching).
Cost: The cost of the flight is normally around RM 90 each, but this can change though.
